Rooted in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and inspired by the kingship of Jesus Christ, the Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King (F.M.C.K.) are a congregation of women religious committed to bringing God’s love to the margins of society. Founded in 1937 in Karachi by Mother Bridget Sequeira and Msgr. Salesius Lemmens, O.F.M., the sisters have carried the Gospel into some of the most vulnerable communities in South Asia and beyond.

A Mission Born of Compassion
The vision behind the F.M.C.K. was simple but powerful: to serve Christ the King by serving the poorest of the poor with humility, joy, and selfless love. From its earliest days, the congregation focused on reaching out to the neglected—orphans, the sick, the elderly, women in distress, and those with no one else to care for them.
Guided by their motto “For the love of Christ urging us”, the sisters live out their vocation through a life of prayer, community, and apostolic action.
Where the Need is Greatest
The F.M.C.K. sisters are present in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kuwait, Italy, and other regions where the need is great. Their ministries include:
Education
Education is a key mission of the F.M.C.K. The sisters run schools, nurseries, boarding homes, and non-formal education centers, especially for girls and children from marginalized communities. Their goal is to uplift lives through knowledge and instill values of peace, respect, and dignity.
Healthcare
Following Christ’s example as healer, the sisters serve in hospitals, dispensaries, and health outreach programs. They care for the sick, the elderly, and those suffering from chronic illnesses —often in places with limited medical access.
Social and Pastoral Ministries
The F.M.C.K. sisters are actively involved in pastoral work, catechism, parish activities, and family counseling. They also operate homes for the aged, women’s shelters, rehabilitation centers, and engage in rural development programs.
Faith Formation and Evangelization
Staying true to their Franciscan roots, the sisters lead others to a deeper relationship with Christ through spiritual retreats, faith education, and formation of lay leaders. They evangelize not only through words but through the witness of their lives.
Living the Franciscan Charism Today
Today, the F.M.C.K. continues to be a vibrant presence of hope in a world that is often broken by division and suffering. Their Franciscan spirituality calls them to embrace simplicity, foster peace, and uphold the dignity of every human person. With each act of love and service, the sisters bring the Kingdom of God a little closer.
